Digital service for the customized design of educational programmes

A solution for the design of a personalized educational trajectory, comprising minimum didactic modules, with the possibility of automating the selection of elements

Task

In the context of the current stage of societal development, there is a pressing need to enhance the efficacy with which the scientific and pedagogical resources of educational institutions are utilized. This entails the creation of adaptive educational trajectories and the establishment of an "alumni educational ecosystem".

In order to effect changes in the educational process under e-learning conditions, it is necessary to launch a new digital service for the implementation of high-quality, competitive education in the digital economy.

The principal objective of the project is to develop and implement a digital service for the customized design of educational programmes.

Project significance:

  • The service offers trainees the opportunity to design their own educational programme in accordance with their own interests and purposes;
  • The service improves the learning experience through a micromodular approach;
  • The service provides a platform for the training of personnel who are equipped with the requisite skills to meet the emerging demands of digital economics;
  • The service fulfills the demands of the labor market.

Solution

A preliminary version of a digital service for the customized design of educational programmes (Learning F3 - Future, Fusion, Flexible) has been developed. The service is based on the system engineering methodology for multidisciplinary educational programmes targeting scientific and industrial entities. In order to implement the first operating version, the content of the extant educational courses was evaluated, and the requisite specifications for the unification of content presentation for training with the service were developed.

Furthermore, the project encompasses the creation of a supplementary vocational education programme, entitled "Adaptation of course content for digital service for customized design of educational programmes (Learning F3 - Future, Fusion, Flexible)". Proficiency in this programme will facilitate the adaptation to the use of the digital service in a more expedient manner.

The programme aims to improve the skills of academic and teaching staff in creating course content suitable for use in digital services. The programme will equip students with the knowledge and skills required to develop modern models for the educational content presentation, to utilize systems engineering methodology in the design of educational trajectories, to apply principles and models for the structure of educational courses, and to understand the new requirements for key competencies in digital economics.

Details

SPbPU's strategy is to create micro modules and provide new avenues for those seeking to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities. When selecting a module, the users are aware of the specific competencies they will gain. An individual educational trajectory (IET) is created for each user on the Moodle platform. The IET is created by means of the IETD (Individual Educational Trajectories Designer) system. The system provides users with a set of tools to automate the selection of discipline elements in accordance with the given student's career profile. Furthermore, it permits the implementation of a microlearning strategy, which consists of the division of learning material into discrete units. The client-server application has been implemented in the conventional format of a web application.

The project was implemented as part of the Technopolis Polytech strategic project of the Priority-2030 programme.
